Fall Decorating & Street of Dreams 2019

By Justin Jones

As the summer ends, we start to nest, ready to snuggle up in sweaters and drink some cider. Here’s some inspiration to get cozy at home.

Layered Neutrals

Create a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere by mixing textures in neutral colors. Choose classic linens, cool grays or soft creams to create a unified look. You can then play with oversized cable knit blankets, faux fur, leather and other luxurious materials.

This look goes well with black and white prints.

Want a little color? Add a bold accent shade like the mustard pillows in the bedroom shown above. This was one of many beautiful interiors we visited at this year’s NW Natural Street of Dreams. This beloved annual home tour showcases inspiring new ideas in architecture and decor – if you’re in the Portland area, give it a visit!

Global Bohemian

Celebrate cultures from around the world by decorating with hand-carved art, found objects, textiles and accent furniture.

If you traveled over the summer, you could frame something you picked up on your trip. Whether it’s a priceless antique or a matchbook you picked up at a local cafe, it becomes art when it’s framed.

Wood frames like those shown below pay homage to traditional carving techniques from around the world.

Metallics

Nothing revives a room like a pop of gold, silver or bronze. Try mercury glass candle holders, antiqued wall mirrors and prints that have gilded details. The framed feather prints shown below were styled leaning on a wall shelf – a look we saw often in those “dream houses.”

Turn any print or photo into a metallic masterpiece with gold or silver framing.
