Tell your story with photos from your phone

Most of us take photos on our phone all the time. We capture the moment our child scores, our partner makes us smile, our pet does something ridiculous. We may share those photos on Instagram or text them to a friend… but how about enjoying them in real life?

Creating a collection of framed photos for your home or office ensures those memories will keep you smiling all day long.

Fortunately we offer easy, affordable ways to enjoy those photos. Let’s cover some basics, including taking great photos, how to print them, and ideas for framing them.

Taking great photos on your phone

Many people worry that their photos aren’t “good enough” to print. First off, if you love the photo, it’s good enough to print! But here are some basic tips to help you take photos you love.

Use Natural Light

While photography lights are becoming more affordable every day, nothing beats a photo taken outdoors or by a window. And you don’t need bright daylight, in fact professional photographers try to avoid bright sunlight as it can exaggerate shadows.

Here in the Northwest we’re blessed with the perfect light for photography – diffused through clouds!

Use the right app

It can be helpful to use an app to adjust your photo’s exposure and color balance. Colleague favorites include ProCamera or Snapseed.

If you try other apps, just check out what resolution it saves the edited photos. Some apps designed for social media posting will save the photo at a resolution that may be too small to print. Here’s a great article explaining resolution, or you can just upload one of your edited photos to Frameable and see what sizes it offers for that image. If the image proves to be too small, you’ll know that app may not be the right tool for you.

Keep the composition simple

Photograph your subject in front of a simple background like a wall or a field. This doesn’t mean you have to force someone to pose, instead you can position yourself to face an area with the least clutter. In the photo below, there were probably other kids in the playground that would have been visible, and potentially distracting, if the photographer had been angled slightly in another direction.

Printing phone photos

We’re happy to take the guesswork out of the process for you. Whether ordering in-store or online, your file resolution is checked by our software to recommend the best size options. The prints are then produced on state-of-the-art Epson printers on premium grade papers as well as canvas and metal. Learn more about our available mediums here.
