Framing Components

Every framing project is unique, but here are some fundamental considerations that may be discussed when you’re at the design counter.

Moulding

Moulding refers to the length material – wood, MDF or metal – that is cut and joined at our Portland facility to create your custom frame. The variety is seemingly endless, from hand-glazed Italian finishes to American hardwoods, budget-friendly composites to modern metals.

Glazing

You’ll get to select from several glass and acrylic options that offer varying degrees of UV protection, durability, glare resistance and other features. If budget is a primary concern, glazing is usually a good selection to adjust.

Mounting

Depending on what you’re framing, anything from heat to hand-sewing may be used to attach your piece to backing material. The designer will lead you through the appropriate mounting options for your particular art piece.

Fitting & Finishing

In addition to your mounted object or art, glazing and optional mats are cut to fit. If the item is dimensional, shadowbox walls may need to be built to create deeper sides on the frame. This is finally assembled and finished with backing paper and hanging hardware.
